Cleaning your home = smoking a pack a day?

Could you be harming your health by simply cleaning your home? A new study has tracked 6,230 people over 20 years and found that damage to subjects’ lungs was comparable to those smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 10-20 years.

It is already known there are increased risks of asthma, cardiovascular markers and respiratory symptoms through exposure of household cleaners. Chemicals such as ammonia are inhaled while cleaning, either professionally or at home, and these are correlated to excelerated decline in lung function.
